Welcome to the "What Music Are You Listening to Right Now?" thread!

The rules (in addition to normal forum rules) are simple:
  • If you post in this thread, you must post the name of the song and its performer you’re currently listening to.
    * This means you can discuss the thread’s topic (what y’all are listening to), but you must post what you’re currently listening to as you do.
    * If you’re not listening to music, then you can’t post in this thread!
  • Post the name of the song and the performer in the following format: “[Song Title (and note of it being live if it’s live, a remix if it’s a remix, etc.)]” by [Performer]
    * Examples:
    * “Heaven and Hell” by Black Sabbath
    * “Last in Line (Live)” by Dio
    * “King of Wishful Thinking (MSTRKRFT Remix)” by Go West
  • You cannot post twice in a row, unless it’s been one hour since your previous post.
  • You can post a link to a YouTube video along with the song title and performer and described above.
    * Posting an actual YouTube video in this thread in addition to the song and performer is TBD by the forum admins at this time.

Good idea. Can we post Youtube video here ? It's actually a question both to you and to the Administrator.

Thank you! If it is OK with the administrator, then I say yes, and I will add that to the rules. (I would say the link can be posted independently of the song/performer format, or as a hyperlinked version of the song/performer format, so the standard of clarity is maintained.)

Oh, yeah. I mean, maybe not, but it's also the first track to an album I had just put on ('...Like Clockwork'), so it's more an intro to a larger piece and less a hooky jam.

I liked this one better already, if you have something softer/more melodious, I live for that crap.

I've acquired a compilation of old songs recently. I love it.

This isn't precisely what you described, but I quite like these guys. They run the gamut of the soft and melodious to more overt EDM, but with kind of a Depeche Mode and Tears for Fears tinge as far as keys and material are concerned.

Good songs my fellows.
You ever heard of Immortal Rites
by Morbid Angel
(no fucking around)
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=mmOYSH_LjF4&feature=kp

Seriously, write a better lyrics:

Gathered for a sacred rite
Subconscious minds allied
Call upon immortals
Call upon the oldest one to intercede
Rid us of our human waste
Cleanse our earthly lives
Make us one with darkness
Enlighten us to your ways

From churning worlds of mindlessness
Come screams unheard before
Haunting voices fill the room
Their source remaining undefined
Shadows cast from faceless beings
Lost for centuries

Lords of death, I summon you
Reside within our brains
Cast your spells upon our lives
So that we may receive
The gift of immortality
Bestowed on those who seek you

[Solo: Brunelle]

(I pray(?))

Repeat 1st verse
Repeat 3rd verse

[Solo: Azagthoth]

(Now immortal)

"Magneto's whores are on their way to pillage, burn and plunder"

The animation was fantastic. After all, it was done by TOEI studios
But the plot and the campiness was similar to M.A.S.K., GIJoe,
and all these 80s shows that were preachy.
The only thing that this episode lacked was Cyclops teaching
kids how to cross the street, to fulfill that quota

Posted by: PatD Oct 18 2014, 11:08 AM
I want you to know that I save every single of your faves. I hope you do the same with mine.

Here is mine favorite

sepultura - arise (lyrics)
Obscured by the sun
Apocalyptic clash
Cities fall in ruin
Why must we die?

Obliteration of mankind
Under a pale grey sky
We shall arise...

I did nothing, saw nothing
Terrorist confrontation
Waiting for the end
Wartime conspiracy

I see the world - old
I see the world - dead

Victims of war, seeking some salvation
Last wish, fatality
I've no land, I'm from nowhere
Ashes to ashes, dust to dust

Face the enemy
Maniac thoughts
Religious intervention
Problems remain

(cough)
belive me or not, but sepultura started with the queen concert in rio de janeiro.
(i have this gig on vhs!)
if not for freddie mercury, this song, would never happen.
not that anyone would care, but still, hilarious.

Look at the mirror of war
You can see your face
One of billion toys in political case

In the mirror of war...
In the mirror of war...
In the mirror of war you can see your face
You can see your fuckin' fate!!!

In the mirror of war - Killing In The Name!!!
If you're killing someone...
You are killing yourselve!!!!

In the mirror of war...
In the mirror of war...
In the mirror of war...
...WAR!!!

1, 2, 3, 4... father's troops are marching on
5, 6, 7, 8... all around the kids they hate
9, 10 and 11... which child will now dream the heaven...?

In the mirror of war
See the Masters and Slaves
Where the Big Boys play...
Mothers mourn for their babies

So crush the mirror of war!
Fuck the mirror of war

*damn I love this song. I only wish more folks would understand the lyrics.*
Have a nice day

That's all I want to say. That's all I need to say. That's all I will say.

I will play this song on repeat. That for sure.

Posted by: PatD Nov 15 2014, 02:22 PM

I close my eyes
Look deep inside
All what I see
It's neverending lies
YOU!
You made me feel so grown
And late throw down my crown
So now my youth is gone...

I feel closes of fear
Deep in my brain
All what I feel it's neverending pain
MY!
My pride was silent cry
My life was sacrifice
I DON'T FORGIVE MY CRY!

Now I ask you
Set me free
Pray the heaven
I must stay like a steel

My belief
You should now give back to me
To my eyes can look and SEE...

HATE!
This life that we create
This pain behind the gate
I need to feel my hate
PRIDE!
I introduce my bride
All always by my side
I hate my deadly pride

Now I ask you...

Yes I know, I was always nobody
I know that, I can fade away without words
Apathy is peace
There is also conscience
In few simple words

Suffering is hope
Hope is blood
Blood is life
Words in blood
Thoughts in blood
Dreams in blood

And the target sacrifices the means
The madmen for years
And we feed them with silence
The silence means YES

sometimes they tell me I am safe
sometimes they tell me that someone is an animal
Long after the montains the sky is red
Thank god, that it's not here

Life is blood
Blood is freedom
Freedom is hope
Hope is suffering
Words in blood
Thoughts in blood
Dreams in blood

Chorus
And we feed them with silence
The silence permist the rape

If you really refuse, then you have to resist

There is nothing more liberating, than noise.
Only noise will set you free.

Chaos AD
Tanks on the streets
Confronting police
Bleeding the plebs

Raging crowd
Burning cars
Bloodshed starts
Who'll be alive?!

Chaos AD
Army in siege
Total alarm
I'm sick of this

Inside the state
War is created
No man's land
What is this shit?!

Refuse...
Resist...
Refuse...

Chaos AD
Disorder unleashed
Starting to burn
Starting to lynch
Silence means death
Stand on your feet
Inner fear
Your worst enemy

Refuse...
Resist...
Refuse..

And if you have a heart, then you can listen to this

Divorced humanity, science strays
Walk the path of servitude
Grown unknown malignant code
Misconceived the passion whole

Misconceive the passion whole

Born against the innocent
Amongst us issues preset
Determined goals which are set
Love, a crime of severance

Are we free to feel?
Do we hurt to heel?
Are we free to feel?
Do we hurt to heel?

Whose life to steal?
Whose pain is real?

Breed to breathe
Breed to breathe
Breed to breathe
Breed to breathe

Awareness fails the public eye
Primate morals sell the lie
2.2, symbolic bait
Process bound genetic fate

Are we free to feel?
Do we hurt to heel?
Are we free to feel?
Do we hurt to heel?

Whose life to steal?
Whose pain is real?

Breed to breathe
Breed to breathe
Breed to breathe
Breed to breathe

The selfish feed
Breed to breathe
The selfish feed
Breed to breathe

This is what I always felt
I always feel
Until I die.
It's worth trying
Because You Have Nothing To Lose

translation of the lyrics
From highest mountain, where he lived 40 days
You could see his whole kingdom
The most beautiful of all evil spread with his arms
and said: all of this is my property, and only mine

I'll give you everything, just kneel, and bow to me
I'll give you everything, just kneel

I'll give you the kingdom of babylon
All provinces of rome, along with jerusalem
I'll give you europe, hitler, napoleon
All properties of dictators with crowns

I'll give you everything, just kneel, and bow to me
I'll give you everything, just kneel

Because all territories belong to the most beautiful
They belong to satan, the one true master of this world
All countries belong to him
They belong to 3 sixes, master of this world

I'll give you everything, all you have to do is just kneel, and bow to me
I'll give you everything, just kneel
Just kneel

THE SONG IS ABOUT PRINCIPLES. SOME PEOPLE SELL OUT, OTHER STAND BY THEMSELVES

Sleater Kinney has totally out of the blue gotten back together and released a new album. In anticipation of their new stuff, I've been listening to their old stuff. They really mellowed out in their later albums. I like rock ok, but I'm more into r&b/soul/jazz, so the rawness of their early work is like woah to me.

That said, Little Mouth is by far my favorite Sleater Kinney song.

QUOTE (Lycaon pictus @ Feb 7 2015, 09:02 PM)
Sleater Kinney has totally out of the blue gotten back together and released a new album. In anticipation of their new stuff, I've been listening to their old stuff. They really mellowed out in their later albums. I like rock ok, but I'm more into r&b/soul/jazz, so the rawness of their early work is like woah to me.

That said, Little Mouth is by far my favorite Sleater Kinney song.

I really like that one. It reminds me of all these sub pop tape releases rips
like this one

I am actually surprised that they never released anything under sub pop label (edit: Sub Pop did release their latest album The Woods and No Cities to Love, yummy)
You have interesting taste. I wouldn't mind if you PMed me some stuff in the vein of this one, especially that I look for some noisy and trippy stuff

I feel that you will also enjoy this stuff

two highlights from me are
Spy vs Spy - Pell Mell

and
Dirty White Lies - Neo boys

Posted by: PatD Feb 28 2015, 04:03 PM
I checked more on the neo boys, and it turns out that they actually managed to release finally their album
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Neo_Boys

To be honest, I never thought of them as "gender political" band (or maybe I am just that ignorant), and I think that politics always limit the music, and rarely are a good thing (Napalm Death being a good example, as their best song was about personal problems, rather than politics).
In other words, I like them for themselves, not because political agendas.

Anyway, this is the kind of music I would recommend to literally anyone, because at the core, it's a very competent, simple, but very catchy and enjoyable pop music (not anymore lo-fi, which was part of the charm). Enjoy!

I LOVE the Yeah Yeah Yeahs!

Y Control is my favorite song. The video has some issues. Namely the taxadermied dog scenes.

I think their best album over all, as far as tone and theme, is Gold Lion. It's Blitz was really great, but as an overall album, their strongest is Gold Lion.

Pretty good stuff Lycaon.

I always try different genres out of curiosity.
I'm still Death Metal maniac for life, but I do enjoy various music.

I didn't know that Erykah Badu and Lauren Hill are NeoSoul, since they're veterans at this point.

The only artist from Soul I always admired and had some knowledge about was/is Sade.

And because I should share what I'm listening to, here it is, some slow crushing and melodic song

Beyond Belief - The Nameless

EVEN if you don't like this kind of music, I recommend you trying it. This genre is called Doom Metal, and it has some DM vocals, however it's a pretty calm and soothing song.

Also, post some serious soul music Lycaon.

someday, I will upload a rehearsal of our version of this song,

I like this band unironically. So shoot me. Maybe I am still childish. I don't care.
I could still shame any pretentious music lover with my knowledge.
Part of being a music lover is that you are not afraid of loving music.

Anyway, Lycaon, post more soul, r'n'b, more jazz, more good music.

What's your opinion on Azalea Banks, Super? I love her craft. Her album was such a pleasant and eclectic surprise to me.

As for Nicki, I dig Roman's Revenge, Muny, Stupid Hoe, Itty Bitty Piggy. Her albums def aren't wholesome. They lack some unifying thing to string the songs together.

I understand. I always try to push people to the limits, and I actually like
your response, to be honest.

The reason why I ask about music is because music is important, it makes you move, it keeps your groove.
Now, some folks might be sad that you don't consider this place good enough,
but I understand what you mean. Sometimes what you like can make
some people's head explode!

The thing is, whenever you post something really good, I will listen to it,
and probably think ABOUT it.

In old CBR I asked folks about reggae. They weren't helpful, but they still managed to recommend me some good stuff.
Good music is very inspirational.

I could post the best music, and people would not understand it the way I do,
HOWEVER, I still urge you to try.

Share your music, share your anger, share your feelings, let the people hear!
Also, I think you have a better knowledge.
All I know is very angry music. Music about injustice and very easy solutions, like fight that results in more violence.
I don't mind learning about other ways and some more "thinking" music.

Here is something from me

Satanic Elvis Presley, so sue me.
I am not perfect, I like cheesecake too.
It's a good song.

Sorry, I was in a dramatic mood.

What I should have said is as far as jazz is concerned, I can't share anything here because the best stuff I know isn't on youtube. You would have to find recordings elsewhere. And the really great stuff is lost to time.

But I can tell you a thing or two about jazz.

I can easily post more soul and r&b though!
I said I was in a dramatic mood when I responded before. That was because I was listening to Alabama Shakes' new album, which came out on the 21st. I've listened to the entire album, every single day since I bought it. They are my favorite band, so obvi I'd been waiting to hear their new stuff for a while.
They don't really do soul or r&b. The music on their first album is kinda a fusion of southern rock, with some soul/blues influences.
This new album though is an entirely different animal. I listen to it everyday, and everyday I hear something new, learn something new. It has been a journey.

So here's a song from that album. Gimme All Your Love might not be soul proper, but the squeals, and the moans, and the emotionality remind me of nothing else but soul.

It's a good start.
My experience with jazz is radio
I know a lot of stuff, but I don't know the names
Here is an example

It's important to promote jazz music, as it's a music for thinking people.

I feel responsible to promote jazz and soul music.
We must promote soul music.
It's our responsibility.
Keep in mind that I want to promote Morbid Angel, Cannibal Corpse, Napalm Death, but I don't.
I don't promote Death Metal, because I am aware THAT jazz and soul and r'n'b music is more important.
You don't realize how serious I treat it.
Promoting GOOd music.
I want you to know.
What I posted is what I know. And my knowledge is limited
I am not a genius. I trust you lycaon, which is why I ask you for guidance.
Thanks and be more vigilant next time.
Hail Hydra.
I mean, Hail Hydrant!
Yup, that's what I meant.

Meanwhile have fun.
but seriously, post the best shit.
I wait the whole week for your word.
Let make it happen.
And let it make worth anything,

@vitamin I've seen her stuff on youtube before. I like it.

@Patrick you're good people. I really mean that. I will post more r&b and soul. But I don't talk jazz with people often. It's a dead language, and so few people speak it anymore. But for you, I will share these two things.

Here is--arguably-- the most perfect 3 minutes and 21 seconds in the history of music. aka, West End Blues. Legend has it, when Louis Armstrong cut this record with his band, he had to play his horn from the hallway because his sound would otherwise overpower everyone else.

Do you know the name Art Tatum? You should. The man was a God. Fats Waller knew it. Duke knew it. Hines and Johnson knew it. Jelly Roll Morton may have known it, but would never admit it because he was too proud, also he might have been dead/dying by Art's time. Anyway, point is that Art Tatum's technical skills are unmatched by any of the stride pianists.

You may need some explanation of what you're hearing. Usually, a pianist's dexterity is in their right hand. You learn to play melodies with the right hand, and play chord progressions with the left. But Art Tatum had indescribable flexibility and talent with both hands. There are very few video recordings of him because it was the early 20th century, but if you ever see one, you can see both hands flying up and down the keyboard in these crazy-ass cadenzas and chromatic scales, and omg, everything. Absolute Godlike speed, precision, and technical prowess.
Jazz pianists would have contests where they'd play all night, trying to outmatch the opponent in terms of skill and imaginative improvisation. If Art Tatum walked in though, everyone knew the contest was fuckin over.

I mean just LISTEN to this. I mean when he really gets going. How many notes is that per second?! And the part where he throws in the little blues piano riff??????? Whaaaaaat!!!!

Posted by: Lycaon pictus May 15 2015, 04:57 PM
Art Tatum's left hand is blessed.

Posted by: vitamin May 15 2015, 05:33 PM
Yeah, I've been obsessed with Gatti's voice lately.

And as a jazz loving illiterate, I thank you for the last post.

Posted by: Patrick May 16 2015, 06:16 AM
Mmmm. I smell some classics. I am proud to admit that I am actually well versed with Louis Armstrong (as well as Ella Fitzgerald).
I am thankful however, that you spotlighted the best for me - I sure appreciate recommendations.

Lycaon, I would have a special request.
My favorite form of jazz music, is the style, where bass is the dominating instrument, and when it is a little loopy, i.e.
when the bass line plays the same thing over and over again, however is also setting the mood.
I am not sure if it is a free jazz, or something else, but I do appreciate this particular form.

I also do like a lot solo soul vocal recordings.
I heard not long ago, a solo song when vocalist was singing about spring.
It was very raw and stripped down song, with minimum background and maximum vocal approach, and it was a very soothing song.
Sadly, the radio announcer didn't bother to mention who was performing the song.
I don't know if this style is called something particular or not,
but yes, it's also appreciated.

By the way, do you have some favorites by John Zorn and Bill Laswell?
As a metalhead, I mostly know them from their grindcore project Painkiller, which I will not post for the sake of posters,
but I'm curious if they are well known, or overrated?

Anyway, I was listening a lot of metal, and I will spare you most of it.
However, this little ditty I dedicate to good people of CBR
Dog Day Sunrise is a cover song by Fear Factory, originally performed by Head of David

the song is industrial in nature.

Also, this little improvisation by John Frusciante

the song made him win the audition for new guitarist.
It's something appropriate for sunny summer.

And when you're done here is drone
A classic song - Seven Angels - by Earth

Posted by: Patrick May 22 2015, 02:25 PM
before Lycaon answer me, I will post this song by Hunter.
Mirror of War

The song is 10 years old, but still feels actual.
Here are the lyrics
Look at the mirror of war
You can see your face
One of billion toys in political case

In the mirror of war...
In the mirror of war...
In the mirror of war you can see your face
You can see your fuckin' fate!!!

In the mirror of war - Killing In The Name!!!
If you're killing someone...
You are killing yourselve!!!!

In the mirror of war...
In the mirror of war...
In the mirror of war...
...WAR!!!

In the mirror of war
See the Masters and Slaves
Where the Big Boys play...
Mothers mourn for their babies

So crush the mirror of war! x4
Fuck the mirror of war! x3

fuck this day
I guess I am not in good mood.

Translation of the song "NOBODY"
I know, I was always nobody
I realize, I could fade away without words
Apathy is calmness
But there is conscience
In few simple words

Suffering is hope
Hope is blood
Blood is life (x2)
words in blood
Thoughts in blood
Dreams in blood

And the goal sacrifices the means
Insane (people) for decades
And it's us who feed them with silence
The silence means (for them) yes

Sometimes they tell me that I am safe
sometimes they tell me that someone is an animal
Behind the mountains the sky is red
Thank god it's not here where we live

Blood is life
Blood is freedom
Freedom is hope
Hope is suffering
Words in blood
Thoughts in blood
Dreams in blood

And the goal sacrifices the means
Insane (people) for decades
And it's us who feed them with silence
The silence means (for them) yes

(final verse)
And it's us who feed them with silence
The silence means RAPE

*end of lyrics*
The word "rape" doesn't mean anything sexual, it means further violence.
End of story.

On sunday we will choose a new president.
The choice is similar to the choice of death.
how would you like to die?
by knife? or by gun?
fuck this world

with this hopeful note I will leave for sunday
frankly, I feel like vomiting on it all...

It's a good song, almost great. Unfortunately it builds a crescendo but the climax never really seems to come. If the last chorus was more explosive, then it'd be a great song.

Lycaon, or should I say Imperioso Furioso blah blah.
You owe me some answers.

Anyway, here is a song for you, you creepy little bastards
You scare the shit out of me.

Minn besti vinur hverju sem dynur
Ég kyngi tári og anda hári

Illum látum, í faðmi grátum
Þegar að við hittumst
Þegar að við kyssumst

Now,shoo shoo, you pesky kids.
I understood every single word being spoken.

Seriously, it's the most easiest lyrics in the world!
Only a complete moron would have a problem with deciphering the lyrics!
Ha ha, I pity the idiot, who can't decipher the lyrics..
Shame on you

My computer is resisting my fingers.
Anyway.
What is the name for the type of jazz, where you have a bassline being dominant,
but being progressive?
Slightly trance, but developing,
for example

Music starts with bass.
Bass goes line A
It starts with A, and then, you can hear slight drums, guitars accompanying bass
but bass still being important.
all instruments play around the rhythm that bass started.
I don't know how it is called, but I heard this style a lot.
If you need better description, I can try, but for love of god, try to think what I meant.

I recently bought Sia's 1000 Forms of Fear and I have been listening to it almost nonstop.

Posted by: Patrick Jul 4 2015, 12:23 PM
I will probably regret it, but I want to challenge you a little bit

DON'T LISTEN TO THE SONG.
INSTEAD JUST READ THE LYRICS

Millions of homeless live on the streets
Some blame it on the economy
I'm broke too, stop begging for change
You piece of shit get out on my way
Innocent victims murdered tonight
At the wrong place, at the wrong time
That's alright, I wasn't there, I'm still alive
Why the fuck SHOULD I CARE?
All these losers hooked on the pipe
Most O.D. when smoking their life
They blame it all on reality
It's your fault you fucking junkie
Hundreds of thousands dying of AIDS
Not my problem they chose to be gay
Some are straight, just to be fair
They'll die too
Why the fuck SHOULD I CARE?

AND MY FAVORITE PART
Third world countries going to war
No one heard of these people before
Nobody cared if they were alive
Show why should we care if they survive
This is what some people say
Is the great American way!
Some complain and say it's not fair
Fuck you all
Why the fuck SHOULD I CARE?

Lyrics like these is why I love Death Metal.
no one else would have balls to say it openly.
I mean, there is nothing to lose, when people already hate you...
Completely offensive, not politically correct
And yet, completely true.
Ask yourself, behind all these beautiful statements,
what do you care?
it's not your problem, you cannot change anything.
You have no say.
So, does anyone feels better by putting a hashtag?

This song was written before 9/11
How ironic.

Thank you for accepting me though.
I realize that I can be a pain in the ass.
But I enjoy it. It's the only board, where I can post truth.
God bless for that opportunity.
Sometimes truth is not politically correct.
Thank you for reading my rant.
Hopefully you will think about what I posted...

I remember when the video for this came out. Is was a huge deal.
They just don't make R&B tracks like this anymore. Too many Bobby Browns, not enough Babyfaces I guess.

Seriously, is anyone making anything genuinely sexy and romantic anymore? I mean damn.

on bass, a chinese man, Chi, on guitars, korean dude with european name, Steph
on vocals, a spanish dude, on drums, a brit
here comes the deftones.

only in usa they were possible, such delight
no other country would handle such awesomeness

same with Nirvana, the best band that ever existed
Nirvana consisted of Croatian, Scott drunkard, and an Irish junkie.
Only in USA they were capable of getting together and create awesomeness.
Nowhere else
Only US gave them opportunity to become more than the sum of their personalities.
I'm mentioning it, because we live in extremely racist times.
And bullshit political correctness that solves nothing only deepens the rift.
Listen and weep, Deftones for the win!

for all the mistakes that USA did,
you achieved much more than anyone else will.
Never forget that.
Also, don't ask my why I started rambling about this topic.

And it reminded me of this:

It's the original and not the soft cover by a certain soap star. I prefer this one, even though it has a very "girl gone bad, but not grunge bad totally 90s" thing going on. But it's a part of my teens years...so whoop! smile.gif

Melvins? Good choice - good album. All hail King Buzzo and his hair. Super nice dudes the Melvins.

Pointless weirdness: Shirley Temple's daughter, Lori Black plays base on that album. Commonly known, but I still find it weird that the girl who sang "On the Good Ship Lollipop"'s daughter played base in a "grunge" band.

Posted by: Patrick Aug 30 2015, 09:46 AM
I am a man of many tastes.

anyway, trivia: Lori Black was fired from the band, because Buzz considered her
"lazy". I don't know what he meant by that, but knowing Buzz enough, it was
something superficial, considering that he fired Joe Preston.
and frankly that album is their most mainstream and most well-known, due to you-know-who
they had better albums, and frankly they should have stopped at some point, because currently
they are a shadow of themselves.

and because I didn't expect anyone to know Melvins, I am forced to post another good song for people

You might heard of the guy, but you probably never heard of this song.

he is also responsible for creating one of the most heartwarming instrumentals ever to be recorded

I used to have that title written on my schoolbag, people were wondering if I was some eco-weirdo, or
were trying to find the innuendo in the title that wasn't there. I just really liked that song.

Posted by: Beezzi Aug 30 2015, 11:05 AM
Maybe Buzzo just doesn't like bass players...;-) (Although, I believe he and Lori dated for awhile so that might have something to do with what happened there...)

And you're right, I've never knew John Frusciante did solo stuff. Sounds really good - especially the second song. A different sound from the Red Hot Chili Peppers stuff, but it still has the same slow Hendrick's rock "twang", that gave them an unique sound. I will look into seeing if I can find the full album. Thanks Partick.

And because we're doing guitarists - I offer D.Boon from the Minutemen:

Cohesion

And this - it's a cover of the Credence song "Have You Ever seen the Ran", just because I love the song and this version.

(Mmm...weird Red Hot Chili Peppers connection there as well - D Boon is one of Fleas heroes.)

It definitely had something to do with that. Like I said, Buzzo is known to be an asshole, so he and Lori probably split on bad term.
Buzzo badmouthed a lot of good musicians, so he is known to be a dick.

Here is the song that John did, when he got sober

Notice him squatting - priceless

as much as I love him, he made better songs when he was a junkie. But thankfully, he lives a healthy life nowadays.
At least we have one rockstar, who didn't end up killing himself.

Minutemen, one of the precursors of Grunge. Here is my take

I hope it's not some sort of contest, if it is, I give up.

translation for those who are curious:
When the snow falls, snow, snow
When the snow falls, millions of hearts
My jolly singing, warms like oven
My jolly singing, brings some laughter
When the snow falls, snow, snow
When the snow falls, even guard
Sings-along with me
Take with you this jolly song
When it rains, the work gets harder for a guard,
When it snows lightly..
But don't be sad, mr guard
because while the wage is not too big
Ears up, after low, always comes the high
When the snow falls, even I feel
Warm in legs, even though the cold screeches
It feels warm in legs, because this song
Makes feel everyone warmer

Re-post from Harry's:

Did anyone watch the Country Music Awards?

I certainly didn't. I don't listen to country. I mean, there are a few songs I like, and Dolly Parton is a saint--of course--but it is sooo not my scene. All beer, and trucks, and God, and nonsense. For example, I hate the FL/GA Line song with a passion.

So, yeah. I only know the CMAs were tonight because my regularly scheduled shows were not on. And once I saw they were not on, I went back to studying for my test.

However, some people on my TL were watching. Lots of jokes about blackish not being on cuz of the CMAs. And someone was like, "Justin Timberlake is performing, LOL". And I was like LOL! wtf is JT doing at the CMAs?

And then someone was like, "Omfg! LOLOLOL They just called JT 'The Soul of Memphis'"

And I laughed at that too.

Fast forward to recently, and I'm scrolling through my TL, and someone posted this video from the CMAs. I started watching it. It has the lol-worthy part where it seems like someone referred to JT as "The Soul of Memphis".

Then something amazing happened.

There's this other guy on the stage, and his singing is really really good. And the song is really really good. And I realize the announcer must have been talking about Cowboy Hat 'n Beard, because he is outsinging JT, and this song is just
soulful and bluesey and perfect.

I've never heard a country song sung like this.

This is an outstanding performance. I don't know who this Chris Stapleton man is, but I'm giving him my money.

What I'm listening to this Thanksgiving:

Ever since Missy released WTF, I've been on a Missy Elliot bender. I'd forgotten (and in some cases didn't know) just how much work she did behind the scenes as a producer and songwriter. She has worked with everyone! Destiny's Child, Aliyah, NSYNC, county music acts, K-Pop groups, Mariah Carey, Whitney Houston, TLC, Beyonce. Pretty much everyone who made an album in the 90's. So I'm watching Missy videos (her videos are always on point), and they all hold up super well. Even the most dated Missy song--Beep Me 911--is still really good. And the doll thing is really well executed. Love the elbow joints on everyone.

And of course there's my favorite:

And for something completely different:

The first thing my Mom wanted to show me when I got in was the video for Exes and Ohs. Apparently they've been playing this song nonstop at her job, and she loves it. It's her workout jam. I'd heard it over the summer, but never watched the video. My mother was adamant that I see it because, "If I ever make a music video, I want it to look exactly like this."

Pagan Babies
no, it's not metal. It's dreampop

What makes it noticeable, beside being recorded in 1984, is the fact that this band consisted of mighty leaders of Hole and Babes In Toyland

My favorite is Best Sunday Dress

EDIT: if you don't click play, you will miss one of the best music in your life.

I hear my neighbors trying to pick and scrape the ice off their cards, birds twittering, and NPR.

Just listened to a pretty funny Gorillaz re-mix of the song "Clint Eastwood" called "In a Bag."

But for the most part I've just been listening to some old albums I got a year ago when I did a stint with eMusic. Stars "No one is Lost", a few Metric albums, and my go to album Plumtree's "Mass Teen Fainting."

Giving Weezer's "Everything will be alright in the end" a shot. Three tracks in? Not too bad.

Been listening to Volumes 1 and 2 of the RWBY soundtrack while working for the past few days. What can I say, I dig the show and the music makes me feel things.

Have you ever wondered how Boney M + Metallica would sound?
Me neither, but here is the answer.

On vocals, the mighty Katon "Black Devil" DePena

There was also a great live video for Bombs of Death from 1987, but it was deleted, so I won't post it.

Too bad, Katon pogoing with the audience was a sight worth seeing, especially when he salluted one of the fans.

Sigh.

Fod, if u dig Midnight City, I wholeheartedly recommend to listening M83's whole album : Hurry Up, We're Dreaming. It's one of my forever favorites.

Now, I'm listening

I have, and I am going to buy a copy of their CD. M83 is my current music obsession.

A very old song, recorded in 1986. Never recorded on any album. Discard their ramblings in their latter part of the video.
They were stoned.
