In All-New X-Men #13, published in May 2013, Kitty Pryde gets really angry with Alex Summers AKA Havok for insisting he does not want to be seen as a Mutant. Her passionate response was heartfelt and one of the few things well-remembered from Brian Michael Bendis' X-Men runs.

The point made is clear. Kitty is a Mutant (and a Jew) and people will have to deal with that. She's not going to hide because others feel uncomfortable with that fact.

But now, four years hence, Kitty once again makes one of her (in)famous speeches. And this time her viewpoint seems to have made a 180.

Now Kitty is saying she doesn't want to be seen as a Mutant. She wants to be seen as a hero foremost. Her identity has become secondary and, like Havok, she sees being a Mutant as merely a distraction.

Was this change in identity politics deliberate? it appears so.

How do you feel about Guggenheim's "plan"? Do you feel it is appropriate? Do you think he should leave well enough alone? Discuss!

I don't think she sees M-word being a distraction, but more like a crutch, nuisance. Her whole identity erasure doesn't compliment at all with mutant school being transported out of Limbo (coming out of hiding, coming out of the mutant closet hell) and into the lush Central Park of New York.

What led to such erasure, I sure do not know, since I haven't been following her journey when she left Bendis Men.

Why does every writer these days think they can make the X-Men more interesting by removing what makes them unique and making them like all the other boring superheroes?

They all gotta fit in with the rest of the colorful merry Marvel heroes and not stand out and talk about civil liberties unless it's Civil War where you can beat your bff to death.
