I love this thread.

You're welcome.

I am however disappointed, because I thought that others would step up and also post some of their national talents.

From what I know, we have many europeans on CBREV
I don't understand why I am the only person who posts in this thread?
I am very curious about Netherlands, French underground (the overground is well-known),
Belgium, Germany, etc.

So far, it's only a one-man show, and it wasn't my intention.
I can go on, there is a shitload of talents that are known and respected in my country, but are
unknown everywhere else, it's enough material for many articles, and maybe I will write it up here,
and try to be much more descriptive.

It's just that I would feel better, if I encouraged someone else to also post some stuff.
Don't be shy fellas!

In regards to the popularity of marvel in Poland.
Mostly X-men and Spider-man are well known.
Avengers and Gotg are still huge unknown.

Punisher, Ghost Rider, DD are extremely well known in Poland

Anyway when there was an Essentials line, look what was published:
X-men - 2 volumes
Wolverine - 3 volumes (officially 2 volumes, but I remember seeing 3rd volume)
Daredevil - 2 volumes
Fucking CONAN - 1 volume (seriously, Conan is more popular than Avengers, or Fantastic Four in PL)
Spider-man - 2 volumes
Punisher - 1 volume (sadly)
Ghost Rider - 1 volume

Fantastic Four is well known but is VERY unpopular. Despite the movie, Avengers are still an unknown, but people recognize
Thor, Iron Man, Captain America, Hulk, even if they didn't have comics licensed here, except some special editions.

Here is the list of what was published in 90s through TM-SEMIC (sic, they were seriously called that way)
TM-SEMIC had a monopoly for foreign comics, they were practically essential in the 90s. Later, Egmont took over and started
promoting european comics (from Spirou, Titeuf to Slaine and JD), their comics are popular, and they still exist and still publish
new volumes by european artists, so the truth is that european comics are much more popular than american in Poland.
X-Men, Batman, Superman, Punisher and to some extent, Spider-Man, are the only superheroes that count here.

The list, excluded shit like Tom & Jerry
Alf, The Amazing Spider-Man (the longest, 102 issues), Batman (second longest, renamed Batman & Superman)
Conan, G.I.Joe, Green Lantern, Jurrasic Park, Indiana Jones, Power Rangers, Punisher, Spawn,
Spider-Man TV Series (educational magazine teaching english), Star Wars: Dark Empire, Superman, Tarzan, Transformers,
TMNT, Ultimate Spider-Man, Wild C.A.T.S., X-Men, X-Files
+Mega Marvel:
Spider-Man: Torment, Ghost Rider (Texeira issues), Silver Surfer (Herald something, Ron Lim issues)
Fantastic Four/Infinity War, Weapon fucking X (I had nightmares after reading that, I was too young to read it!)
The Incredible Hulk (PAD issues, crossover with X-Factor)
Daredevil: The Man Without Fear
The New Warriors (The Forces of Darkness, Forces of Light arc)
Midnight Sons Crossover (essential issues)
X-Cutioner's Song
Avengers: Ex Post Facto (Dark Sersi / Proctor saga - 2 volumes)
Ghost Rider 2099
Sabretooth (Dead Hunt)
Wolverine/Gambit: Victims
Captain America (some Waid's issues)
Thor: Worldengine
Heroes Reborn: Fantastic Four
Heroes Reborn: Iron Man
Blade (Movie tie-in)

Wydania Specjalne (DC/ Dark Horse)
Terminator 2 (movie adaptation), Batman movie adaptations
Spider-Man: Parallel Lives (I didn't know about that until I googled it)
Tom & Jerry shit
Batman versus Predator I-III
Superman For Earth
Batman/Judge Dredd: Judgement on Gotham
Batman: Sword of Azrael
Lobo - every mini-series, one-shot - Extremely popular character*
Aliens vs. Predator (original one)
Batman: Venom
Ganthet's Tale
Ghost Rider/Wolverine/Punisher: Hearts of Darkness
Ghost Rider, Wolverine: Acts of Vengeance
Batman Black & White I-II
Tomb Raider, Witchblade

There were much more stuff published in 00s, but maybe I will post it the other day.
During 00s we finally could read Preacher, Sin City, Dark Knight Returns, Watchmen, Maus, etc.
It was a golden decade to be a comic book fan.

*When I first read Lobo, I thought that Czarnia was some Polish translation of the english word.
I imagined that the original word was something in vein of Abyssia / Blackum, or whatever
Imagine my surprise when I learned that Czarnia is actually a word used in original comics.
Czarnia means "Abyss/Darkness/Blackness". I am very grateful to Giffen and Grant for this minor Polish easter egg.

I don't have any real national artists to share since I am an American Citizen. We really just gobble up every other nationality, ethnicity, and culture. Then we proceed to be racist fucks against them for being different. Then when they die, we love them and their art.

Fucking America, am I right? http://i.imgur.com/NpvpXRP.gif

Don't say that. It opens a discussion that no one needs.
This thread was about different cultures.
That's it.
What I want, is comics, of different variety.
I am from a poor country, a country that is neglected and mistreated,
and yet, we had a very vital scene.
It's all over now. What I present is mostly in the past.

Also, nothing stops you from being fascinated in foreign scenes, like Italian one.
Nathan Never, Dylan Dog, Paperinik anyone?

EDIT: I shortened the post because I realized that I sounded like a pompous hat.
