Rules about spoilers: SPOIL AWAY to your heart desires.

American Gods will run for three seasons, afaik, and they will be faithful to the book and might add some new things.

Anansi was honest, but he tricked them in the end to kill themselves which gave him necessary ol' blood sacrifice. Every Coming to America story will feature immigrants first stepping foot on american soil and bringing their gods to pray and sacrifice to in the harsh and unknown new environment. Vikings brought Odin and gave their eyes, blood and some comrades to appeal to Odin and get the wind necessary to go back home. Odin's totem stayed. African ppl brought Anansi with them and paid with their lives to get out of the hell but they propelled him to set foot on american soil.

Media even mentions that the rules of god game have changed: gods don't need blood sacrifices anymore, they need attention and time sacrifices.

I give so much of my time and attention to birds. Bird God? I think I've seen it in the title sequence.

Ok, I've said it's been a while since I read the book. What exactly happened between Salim and the Jin? From what I remember, they switched places? Or he gave him a new life or something? Anyway, it was a very touching scene and I don't know why they promoted it as being "the most pornographic gay sex scene ever". I mean, I know what they were going for. I assume they meant to express they were really going to lean into the gay, not a chaste 'fade to black' situation. But pornographic isn't quite the word I would have used, and that scene was anything but. If it had been it would have taken away from the narrative.

The bank robbing scene was fun and made me want to rob a bank. It looks so easy! This thing with Mad Sweeney makes me think they might not kill him, or at least not kill him right away? I hope so. I like him. Excited to see what this actress brings to Laura's role. She doesn't look at all how I pictured Laura in my head. Also excited for whenever they show Anubis' dog head, because I love dogs!

If I died from falling off a stool in the kitchen I would be so pissed I can't even tell you. I like that they made the eagle in the title sequence look like a thunderbird on the totem pole. Excellent symbolism. Who crucified that astronaut? Great name check about the different Jesuses. Foreshadowing?

I loved that dead Muslim lady. Did Anubis tricked her into going to the wrong world? Is that cat Anubis' crime partner? That intro scene shook me to the core how good and beautiful it was. It kinda reminded me of Gaiman's Death.

Maybe they meant it was pornographic with how they showed their dicks. I found out today the actors are friends and are glad they did the scene with someone they knew. I assumed Jinn's fiery spunk transformed Salim from within into him? Changed places or made Salim a Jinn?

What exactly did Wednesday do when he tried to romance Zoraya Vechernaya?

I got sad for Mad Sweeney sad.gif Poor fella. Did his coin revive Laura?

I get the feeling they wanted Trent Reznor's Immigrant Song cover for the title theme and when they didn't get it, they made a song that copies it.

Mr Jackal was such a cute doggy! Can't wait to see Ibis' bird head (I'm very pro-bird). Ibis was such a lovable nerd!

Audrey was A++++. Also was tickled that she was distressed about behaving so vulgarly. She's obviously a great friend--justifiably mad, but still stitches her arm back together!--and deserves a better bff. Love her crafting room. Audrey and I should scrapbook together some time.

Laura episode was a very good episode. I very much relate to her ennui and dissatisfaction with life, even though I don't quite understand her choices. It's interesting that she basically said she cheated because she was lonely without Shadow, but while Shadow was there she didn't seem too happy. Audrey even pointed out that she didn't love him that much. Fucked up about Anubis making her go out with the bug spray and the hot tub though. Like damn, can't I just fall asleep? Also dunno why he's the one who came to collect her after she died. I thought people who believed in nothing got nothing?

Speaking of, "Will there be peace?" "There will be darkness."
Damn.

Casting Dane Cook as Robbie was brilliant, because he's so very douchey.

I bet Wednesday and his future-spoiler pal ruined Laura's brilliant plan. Shame. Shadow tried to do the chivalrous thing and keep his wife out of prison, but he should have listened to her. They both would have served 1 and half years and none of this would have happened :/
This episode made me feel really bad for Shadow and Audrey. Also thought Shadow was really sweet that first time they had sex when he asked Laura if she was ok before he put two and two together. And when Laura hatched her master plan and he came into the kitchen like, "Are we pregnant?" And sounded super jazzed about it.

I can't believe Laura kicked that droog in the groin so hard his spinal column and skull came out of his skin. That has to be straight out of mortal kombat.

Anyway, I don't remember how Laura and Shadow got together in the book but that whole scene in the parking lot was absolutely ridiculous. Like the fact that any woman would be super cool with being approached by a man in a dark, empty parking lot? And him being a (would-be) disgruntled customer? And then him confirming the worst fear, that he wasn't in that parking lot by chance, but was in fact waiting for you?? Lots of women have stress dreams about that sort of thing. To this day mother walks with her keys inbetween the knuckles in her fist just in case. My grandmother checks under the car and in the backseat just in case. It's A Thing. Empty parking lot is NOT a romantic spot for a meet-cute.

Interesting how in this flashback Shadow seems to have a lot more personality, other than laconic and scowly.

I love how brattish and teenagey he is. Especially love how Media and Mr World act as his parents and punish him for being bad boy™.

This episode blew me away. From Shadow interrogating Laura about Dane Cook dick biz to to the police station of horrors, this was a thrill ride.

I never knew in a billion years how fun interaction would be between Mad Sweeney and Dead Wife. And she just flicks her finger and he whimpers in pain! smile.gif She won this round in the end, even though he foretold her actual end on a hot summer's day. I want more rounds between the two.

This ep digs into the meat of belief and gods vs humans mechanics. New Gods just occupy our time and give nothing back, the Oldies give us meaning in return. So why does Odin want war? To charge himself up? Were Media and World proposing to Odin to kill North Korea for him? You can also see the face behind Mr World mask LOKI smile.gif, if you read between his lines when he walks into the room. And the amount of respect he has for Odin.

Mad Sweeney hurting his dick while trying to get out of the car gave me the most laugh. Best comedy scene so far. The second place has to be Wednesday being brutally honest with the cop.

Mr World was attractive with his globalization rhetoric and it's so easy to buy into it. When it's mostly true.

The decision to reimagine Technical Boy as a young, douchey, silicoln valley tech bro was a stroke of genius. Seeing him get his teeth knocked out was very satisfying.

Again, I'm overjoyed that they didn't kill off Mad Sweeney because he is delightful. I'm living for the Laura, Salim, Mad Sweeney road trip. I want Mad Sweeney to do more coin tricks. I also want him to get into Loony Toons style physical gags. Like have him step on a rake and the rake hit him in the face, and then he falls down a manhole, and a piano falls on him, and the keys are his teeth, and they play a little song.

Wednesday's speech about Old Gods giving meaning and New Gods being time-fillers was interesting...but I disagree. I love Media God the most. Because I feel like it's a fair relationship. No human sacrifice, no getting swallowed up by a vagina, no war, no stabbing out an eye. Just time and attention. And in return? Entertainment, communication, inspiration. Media is a big deal for a social animal like human beings. It seems like Media encompasses music too, not just tv/movies, since she/they showed up as David Bowie. And radio off that bit she/they mentioned about the martian invasion mass hysteria. Media seems super down to Earth, somewhat wise, and pretty cool. I'd swear fealty to Media in a hot second.

The border crossing bit was excellent. I didn't think it would end well for those poor people, but it was still sad to watch what with the current state of affairs.

Was Vulcan being low-key racist on purpose?
What was up with that tree?? Was that in the book?
