|I can't wait for Fongji's return.|

You say that as if it's not super-likely.
I'll believe this has anything to do with Jean Grey when I see her in the pages of the book.

| My real question is, will we keep Jeen around. I have maintained that even though I liked Jean just fine she was pretty shallow as a character, and I honestly think Jeen got as much development written for her in 5 years as Jean did in 40.
So will this be a Back to the Future type time travel thing? Will this be an older version of Jeen, kinda like Layla? Is it going to be Superman Reborn where it mixes old Jean and nuJeen? Or are we just getting 2 versions of the same hero again and having to decide which one gets more panel time? Because that's been a big mess for most of the older O5 since the kids have come back. With notable exceptions.

|Shes always been tied with Rogue as my #1. check any of these "ur top 10 favorite X-Men" threads we ve had. but shes also a racist homophobic stuck up piece of burning trash who spends tew much of her time hating on other girls. omg is she the taylor swift of the X-Men? anyway I love her.|
|Posted by: Satan Sep 13 2017, 08:04 AM|
| Yeah, she is.
Here's Jean taking a swim in her treasure cave:
|Posted by: Satan Sep 13 2017, 08:07 AM|
| It all ads up: Jean is actress starring in everyone's bad dreams. She had kingdom keys, but Emma kicked her out and threw a lobster feast. What else?
Taystans are annoying as Jean fans.

| I want Jean to come back and be a villain or a lesbian or something. Like, I don't want this to be a situation where she comes back and gets perved on by half the guys on the X-Men team again, that shit was just gross.
If this somehow ends with Jean and Cyclops getting back together, I will scream.
|Posted by: Phoenix Egg Sep 13 2017, 09:00 AM|
|Posted by: sweetdumbass Sep 13 2017, 09:32 AM|
|Jean is the one XMen character that exudes heterosexuality through every pore of her skin. But I join u in that I would like her to stay a wild card and not just join the ranks. Give her her own agenda, allies and base of operation.|
|Posted by: Phoenix Egg Sep 13 2017, 09:53 AM|
| Let's not be disrespectful. She was the heir apparent.
The X-Men and X-Mansion are her allies and base. She should come back and remove any dissenters.
Edit: Re-read that solicit. This is an obvious fake-out.
So her teammates come to the conclusion that she is back. Doesn't say she is actually back.
|Posted by: Kaiolino Sep 13 2017, 09:55 AM|
|Does Jean's tk allow her to grow out Kitty's hair?|
|Posted by: Phoenix Egg Sep 13 2017, 10:02 AM|
Storm can use lightning to change clothes. Anything is possible.
|Posted by: Annihilatrix Sep 13 2017, 10:08 AM|
I mean if Guggenheim is still writing an X-Book in a few months, you could very well get Jean as a lesbian but also Jean being perved on by a bunch of guys.
|Posted by: Kaiolino Sep 13 2017, 10:13 AM|
Psylocke was extremely straight until she randomly became bisexual for Femtomex (who was just her boyfriend with a vagina anyway).
|Posted by: sweetdumbass Sep 13 2017, 10:41 AM|
| Dazzler and Sage might want to have a word with u abt that. and Rachel. and Storm. and Danvers when she was in Rogues body.
actually betsy is probably the one closest to have brought the bi out off Jean.
|Posted by: sweetdumbass Sep 13 2017, 10:42 AM|

|Jean Grey has been dead for 14 years but comic book readers who aren't die-hard X-Men fans still really, really hate her.|
|Posted by: Satan Sep 13 2017, 12:45 PM|
Maybe she'll regain popularity as Jean's weird black gurlfriend?
I mean, she scored some pop points with nu readers while she was Logan's girlfriend.
|Posted by: Annihilatrix Sep 13 2017, 12:47 PM|
|Only X-Men fans get to hate Jean. She's our asshole. Same with Logan and Charles.|
|Posted by: Satan Sep 13 2017, 12:51 PM|
| + Cycho
Someone should do Who's the best Asshole of the X-Men? thread
|Posted by: Annihilatrix Sep 13 2017, 12:58 PM|
| "Best" as in least objectionable or "best" as in most asshole-ish?
If the latter, I feel like Logan's tagline is him trying to stake his claim to the title.
Beast is the one asshole that other fandoms are free to shit-talk, as far as I'm concerned.
|Posted by: Juggernaut Punch Sep 13 2017, 03:14 PM|
I agree with this. Wolverine is just an asshole's asshole.
Speaking of which, I recently rewatched X-Men 1, and I realized that Wolverine in that movie is the type of guy that everyone hates nowadays; he's a complete dick to Cyclops for no reason whatsoever, and he keeps trying to force himself on Jean. I bet he also gropes people at festivals and thinks feminism is evil. What a creep.
Beast is on a whole 'nother level lately though.
|Posted by: Annihilatrix Sep 13 2017, 03:29 PM|
|But if movie!Logan wasn't a dick to Scott for no real reason we wouldn't have gotten the, "How do I know it's really you?" "*pops middle claw only*" "Okay." which is, frankly, the best thing out of any of the films.|
|Posted by: Juggernaut Punch Sep 13 2017, 03:46 PM|
|Still though, can you believe that as late as 2000 that was the typical image of the kewl guy that everyone should ideolize and identify with?|
|Posted by: Phoenix Egg Sep 13 2017, 07:22 PM|
| Assuming this isn't BS, I hope they put Quire and Hope in Jean' s book.
People nagged for years that folks like Hope should be bounced off Jeen, and Jeen #2 was good indeed, but the real potential was always in having them bounce off the REAL Jean.
Also: Logan will always be a great character and she should bring him back with her.
|Posted by: AgentFelix Sep 13 2017, 08:13 PM|
I like that you're asking the real questions
|Posted by: Juggernaut Punch Sep 13 2017, 11:22 PM|
| Unless they bring Logan back with no memory of literally anything, and stop trying to pretend that his sexual harassment is charming and anger problems are charming, he can stay dead.
Besides, it took Old Fart Logan like, two weeks to basically start appearing in everything and start acting like regular Wolverine, so who gives a shit?
|Posted by: AgentFelix Sep 14 2017, 04:07 AM|
This isn't wrong. It's just like they fast forwarded Logan's character arc. They hardly act like different characters.
|Posted by: Kaiolino Sep 14 2017, 06:51 AM|
Jean coming back after 14 years just so that Jason Aaron can put her in an Avengers team would be the least surprising thing ever.
|Posted by: Annihilatrix Sep 14 2017, 07:15 AM|
|She's our asshole, Aaron, you bastard.|
|Posted by: sweetdumbass Sep 14 2017, 09:12 AM|
|I blame the Church for this.|
|Posted by: Filthy Mutie Sep 14 2017, 10:51 AM|
So you say you want CC's Wolverine.
|Posted by: Kaiolino Sep 14 2017, 10:56 AM|
|I think the "Wolverine has no memories" plot point wasn't introduced until right after CC left.|
|Posted by: Juggernaut Punch Sep 14 2017, 11:12 AM|
I want to pretend that the last ca 2-3 decades of Wolverine stories never happened.
|Posted by: Juggernaut Punch Sep 14 2017, 11:13 AM|
I bet whichever character Aaron is writing a solo for will bang Jean and she'll declare that he's the best she ever had.
Aaron is such a sleezebag sometimes.
|Posted by: Annihilatrix Sep 14 2017, 11:23 AM|
|She might not bang him, she may just really want to bang him, enough to stalk him and possibly attempt sexual assault, but he'll deny her because he's banging someone else.|
|Posted by: sweetdumbass Sep 14 2017, 11:55 AM|
I mean doesnt that apply to literally the whole franchise? the only character u could have said had strived post Claremont was Emma and lol.
|Posted by: Satan Sep 14 2017, 12:04 PM|
| Jean cumming back to Avengers makes me wish this is Fongji's book.
I wish Aaron would just be banned from writing mutants.
Someone needs to build telepathic wall in Aaron's head.
Make Jean great again!
|Posted by: Satan Sep 14 2017, 12:07 PM|
|In the end we'll always have Claremont's Celestial Years.|
|Posted by: Juggernaut Punch Sep 15 2017, 01:53 AM|
I feel like a ton of characters have strived post-Claremont. Wolverine has pretty much been totally estranged from what made him an interesting character however, by having every inch of his past explored, having him be the center piece of the X-Men, and by having him be a hypocritical goodie-two-shoes.
Wolverine was only ever interesting as a morally questionable side character. At this point though, there's just no way whatsoever Marvel will keep him confined to a side-role in one or two books. He's always going to be in everything.
|Posted by: AgentFelix Sep 15 2017, 04:44 AM|
|Its the problem of serial comics with little to no aging. Character progression either reaches its peak and then gets frozen in stagnation, or it regresses and repeats itself. Im starting to really wish they'd let these characters age and do the generational thing. Make deaths matter etc|
|Posted by: Kaiolino Sep 15 2017, 05:30 PM|

I would buy this.
|Posted by: Phoenix Egg Sep 15 2017, 09:30 PM|

|Posted by: Phoenix Egg Sep 18 2017, 10:11 AM|
I came to ask if you guys were going to read it.
And no I still don't care about the Avengers just like I read X-Men and don't care about certain characters.
Just sucks I have to buy an Avengers book. But Aaron is a good writer and hopefully there won't be the certain couple of mutants I don't like around her.

| Please be evil, please be evil, please be evil.
Emma can return and put her in her place.
You lost me.
|Posted by: Optic Rage! Sep 18 2017, 01:02 PM|
| Realistically, it's hard to care about this without Charles, Scott, Logan or Emma around for her to bounce off. The character is a blank slate for the most part. I mean, is anyone really invested in her friendship with Storm which was mostly us being told how close they were vs ever actually seeing it? (Apart from that one time she braided her hair which was...lol). And if she's joining the Avengers? Just lol.
I was also hoping that it would be met with more of a bang versus some mini by a writer I've never even heard of.
|Posted by: Optic Rage! Sep 18 2017, 01:05 PM|
What books have you actually read by Jason Aaron that you'd classify as good?
As for the mutants that you don't like being around her? Well they're literally the only characters that the vast majority of people want to see her interact with?
|Posted by: Phoenix Egg Sep 18 2017, 02:19 PM|
| Trust me, if it's Jean-in-Avengers vs Betty and Veronica Harem Catfight #34355322453254322, I'll take Jean-in-Avengers and Jean fans, X-Men fans, and the medium are better off with that choice.
ALL of the X-Men relationships need a shake-up and/or re-emphasis.
Look back on the last 5 years of X-Men in a vacuum and all we know is Emma desperately wants Scott, Teen Grey desperately wants Scott but doesn't want to get fridged, and Colossus wants Kitty.
I feel like we hardly know anything about the interpersonal dynamics between the X-Men that did exist a long time ago, let alone the infinite number of combinations that aren't and never will be explored because people still want to see some stupid catfight that we've seen 80 times while complaining that nothing different happens.
"What are they gonna do? Write about that Storm/Jean friendship that was hardly on panel???"
Absolutely, in an ideal world.
Ideally, Jean would come back to the X-Men and start off a chain of characters being in the faces of characters that they rarely interact with. That's half the idea of getting her away from Scott and Emma: to see her do stuff with/against other characters (the other half of the idea being that they are corny and annoying).
If it takes her being on the Avengers to get some new dynamics going, I'm here for it, but this could totally, easily be accomplished within the X-Men.
I know. If it was any other character I wouldn't even bother. Lord knows Wolverine never tempted me to read Avenger garbage. But it's Jean, though!

| Out of all his comics you're going with that? It was mostly garbage with Logan acting ridiculously OOC for the sake of editorial mandate but ok. The best X-related thing Aaron wrote was Get Mystique which was legitimately great. It's been sharply downhill since then.
I'm surprised you're such an Aaron fanboi considering you always take such issue with anyone using the Phoenix Force outside of Jean given Aaron's complete bastardization of the mythos.
|Posted by: sweetdumbass Sep 19 2017, 10:52 AM|

|Right. Those first 3-4 issues felt like a breath of fresh air after the uber seriousness/drabness of the Utopia era. Then AvX happened, Aaron showed up to the boards and made an ass of himself/murdered his fan goodwill and then the book pretty much became a ''wacky'' off-kilter satellite post AVX after Bendis took over.|

Ah how i wish i screenshotted those posts. His disbelief that the X-Men fans on an X-Men forum were on the side of the......X-men?????? still blows my mind. How out of touch can you actually be??
Also, speaking of creators coming onto the boards, remember the time Wood had his righteous woke period when dealing with the morons whining about the X-Ladies team? I knew at the time it was blatant transparent attempts for fandom brownie points, which made the scandal even more cringe.

More A+ respect for the Phoenix mythos from Jason Aaron.
|Posted by: Kaiolino Sep 19 2017, 01:56 PM|
|I like Astonishing Spider-Man and Wolverine too. In fact, Aaron might be good on Amazing Spider-Man, especially with modern Marvel editorial wanting Parker to be an in demand bachelor.|

| Aaron was great, he just wasn't delivering the Flagship people wanted. Well until Amazing, and just for an arc then before it got Kyosted.
If Gage hadn't been so bad, or Carey had stayed on Legacy like originally planned, I think people would've been happier with the Gold side of Schism. At least we got a great Rachel issue, even if Aaron didn't understand why people loved it (lol).

A thousand times this.
Can someone explain what was good about Aaron?
|Posted by: Filthy Mutie Sep 21 2017, 02:10 PM|
| I remember liking Aaron before he started huffing or something toward the end of his Wolverine run, going into his X-Men book.
I haven't read those pre-LOLJOKEZ books in a while, so I don't know how well they hold up. 'Get Mystique' is one of those. The thing where he killed his kids was well written (I think?) from a technical standpoint, but seemed to be written for the purpose of shock - a tragedy for the sake of tragedy and the guy's had enough of those to explore.
|Posted by: Fringe Division Sep 21 2017, 02:44 PM|
|That was also a set-up for Wolverine's five-minute Won't You Think Of The Children? phase.|
|Posted by: Filthy Mutie Sep 21 2017, 03:38 PM|
I like that Wolverine doesn't want kids/innocents having to fight, especially in wars and/or wetworks. But, I'm not sure that was a new thing, which made his sudden violent objection to it in 'Schism' even more left-field.
|Posted by: Kaiolino Sep 21 2017, 03:43 PM|
|I like that the arc where Wolverine kills his kids ended after Schism.|
|Posted by: Optic Rage! Sep 21 2017, 03:58 PM|
| Logan "Won't somebody think of the children" era never really worked on any level Imo. Sure, historically he's been a big brother figure to Rogue/Kitty/Jubilee but that's always come alongside many monologues about being able to kick ass and fight.
Realistically it should have been Scott/Logan vs Kitty/Kurt. The ideology for both pairs would fit a lot cleaner. Plus it would have been some good foundation to start pushing Kitty towards her role as a major player in terms of leadership, which she's always been destined for vs Kitty is now the leader because Scott/Logan are dead and Storm is basically irrelevant. Also, it would have been good for Kurt to actually have an active role in the overall direction of the franchise for the first time in the characters history instead of being a bit player.
|Posted by: AgentFelix Sep 21 2017, 05:33 PM|
Did it though? I remember them fading out of that to him going into seclusion, and Schism started with the same shot of him in the wilderness, coming home.
I could be wrong though, only read that run once and it was 6 years ago.
It was rapid, but I didn't mind that arc and progression. It was a logical shift, even if rushed and pushed his character forward. And then it became fart jokes. If only WatXM had been Amazing instead, I feel that time would have played out much differently.

To clarify on my end: When I think of Wolverine not wanting kids/"innocents" to fight, it's pedestrians he'd come across or, you know, Power Pack members - not really Xavier's/Magneto's students.
|Posted by: Phoenix Egg Sep 21 2017, 05:58 PM|
|He just didn't want them to feel like being an X-Men and fighting for mere existence was all there was.|

| Wolverine and Quire will always be a great father/son duo.
Double post like a newb.

| Wolverine definitely should have been on Cyclops' side of the Schism. The reverse never made a lick of sense.
Having Wolverine front his own franchise was bad on two fronts. One, it never made any sense for the character to take that stand, and two, Wolverine should not be the lead guy in a team book. What made the Wolverine character work in a team setting was having him bounce off the front pieces, and building up a mystery around the character.
His overexposure during the 90's and 00's really killed the character, because it ruined any sense of mystique he had, and it put him front and center of everything, which just didn't fit the character archetype.
That's an interesting viewpoint that should have been expressed by literally any other character than Wolverine. Have Charles come back and take that stand. Or Storm. Or Kurt, or Kitty, or Rogue, pretty much anyone. Not only did it make no sense for Wolverine to take that stand, it made no sense for that to be an issue in the first place, because we never saw Cyclops forcing anyone to fight. Hell, they used to lock the kids up in the basement whenever a big crisis happened. Wolverine's whole argument was undermined even more when the Young X-Men were the ones that actually saved Utopia while he was trying to kill Cyclops.

Doh, yea I read the Wolvie books late so I wouldn't have noticed it.
I remember agreeing with you on this years ago and it still holds true. Why it wasn't Storm makes no sense to this day.

The answer is probably as simple as Marvel not believing in anyone else having the selling-power to carry the Gold Side.
Which really made no sense, since Blue Side was Marvel's best selling book (IIRC) despite having fewer big selling names.

| This thread should have existed just before Schism. Have Logan side with Cyke over Jean. Omg missed opportunities.
I liked the story as it played out, but it would've been great to have her back at that time.

| X-Men deserve better. And it's a franchise that can grow.
Alas, we got what we wanted. X-Men is OK by MCU, so synergy will go full throttle.
At least no more shithumans

| Move on we will.
Interesting, very interesting. Also going from interviews her return won't be something we are expecting.
I also think it's time to retire the Phoenix. Great in its original concept but it's been used as a crutch for Jeans character for far too long. Even moreso than Scott/Logan. It's just been so bastardized at this point. Removing it will actually give her a chance to develop as a character.
Are we agreed?

|Is there a point to Jean's existence without the Phoenix/love triangle?|
|Posted by: Optic Rage! Sep 26 2017, 03:23 PM|
|Not really, no. Now we might actually get to see one develop?|
|Posted by: Kaiolino Sep 26 2017, 03:26 PM|
|Not really since she'll be with Logan, though I hope their romance is as epic as Logan/Storm was.|
|Posted by: Phoenix Egg Sep 26 2017, 03:32 PM|
| Retcon all the non-Jean garbage as rogue Phoenix shards. Have Jean seal it inside herself and leave it there. No more messing with its place after.
Then get to the business of whatever this totally shocking new role is.

This is the problem I have with the Jean Grey dies all the time meme. tbf, they do it for a lot of the heroes in this shitty list, but counting deaths that don't last through an issue or a story don't count imo. A comic book "death" is when someone is removed from the table completely and requires some sort of story or retcon to bring them back later. Having Jean "die" while the shuttle crashes, only to immediately come out of the water as Phoenix 2 pages later doesn't count as a death in my book. Neither does the fakeout in #281. The Endsong one is debatable because that was essentially playing on the meme. She was resurrected and died 50x in that story sure, but the story started with her dead, and ended with her dead. In macro terms, that's not a resurrection.
(this again applies to everyone btw, they use some really stupid deaths in this list. I just don't know how Jean gets associated with a million deaths, even before Morrison's run, when comparably it's pretty normal by comics standards)
|Posted by: Fringe Division Sep 28 2017, 01:11 PM|
|At least this write-up didn't include stories where literally the entire Marvel universe is destroyed and then restored as one of her deaths, which I've seen happen.|
|Posted by: Phoenix Egg Sep 28 2017, 02:39 PM|
| I'm always like...
Her primary codename is Phoenix.
Nevermind that death in unending superhero comics is corny.
Oh really? He beat Robin literally to death? Don't cut yourself on that edge, fam.
I'd be more moved by someone saying "Yeah, I'm done with this" and quitting heroism than I would ever be by any death. Then, logistically, that leaves them on the board if you want to bring them back, no resurrection needed.

|Well, my interest is piqued, although I hope it is just misdirection. I do hope they're going all out for this. With the editorial/creative shake-up going on at Marvel, and the undoubtable shift in focus for the X-Men books with Disney buying the rights, I think putting the board back together is a good start.|
