Hello everyone. We here at CBRev have been contemplating how to organise something fun that we could do as a collective. But since X-Men comics have been regurgitated ad nauseum, we decided that we might as well do a watchthrough and analysis of the best non-comic X-Men adaptation: the Buffyverse.

Buffy: The Vampire Slayer was a TV series that ran from 1997 to 2003 on The WB and UPN and was created by Joss Whedon, the guy who would later become famous for ruining your favourite comic book characters. Although it started off as a burn-off mid-season show, it quickly became a huge cult hit and in 2000 a spin-off show centered on soulful vampire Angel was created, which ran till 2004.

Buffy is considered a culturally relevant TV show, because, along with The X-Files, it made serialised storytelling a pretty cool thing to do, as well as cultivating a nerd audience that rallied around the show. The show both indulged and subverted familiar genre tropes and the show’s tone could go from silly comedy to terrifying horror to cable-level drama. Buffy is also considered a feminist show. However, since Joss Whedon Feminism is a trigger phrase, I will refrain from further talking about that in this introduction. While the show never won it big at awards shows (it won one writing Emmy in its 7 year history), enraging both fans and television critics (the conclusion to season 5’s The Gift did get an honorary Emmy award in 2008 for Most Memorable Moment in the drama category), the show left a definitive mark on television history. Esteemed television critic Alan Sepinwall considered Buffy one of the 12 series that lead to TV’s golden age. In the USA, Buffy Studies can be followed at select colleges.

Back on track, we would like to invite both seasoned Buffy vets, as well as the virgins who want to know why Buffy is so celebrated even though at first glance it looks pretty dumb, to join us on a journey throughout the Buffyverse.

Edit: try to avoid spoilers in this thread please as some of the posters participating in the watchthrough have never watched an episode. Here's a selective list of episodes that was made by Kaiolino. We're accepting suggestions as to changes in that list, assuming they're founded.

QUOTE
Season 1:

1x01: Welcome to the Hellmouth
1x02: The Harvest
1x07: Angel
1x10: Nightmares
1x12: Prophecy Girl

Season 2:

2x01: When She Was Bad (not a great episode, but it shows the increased confidence of the second season
2x03: School Hard
2x06: Halloween
2x07: Lie To Me
2x09: What's My Line (Part 1)
2x10: What's My Line (Part 2)
2x13: Surprise
2x14: Innocence
2x16: Bewitched, Bothered and Bewildered
2x17: Passion
2x21: Becoming (Part 1)
2x22: Becoming (Part 2)

12 episodes!!! But it was the best season, so okay.

Season 3:

3x01: Anne
3x03: Faith, Trick and Hope
3x06: Band Candy
3x08: Lovers Walk
3x09: The Wish
3x10: Amends (is this the best 3 episode run of the series?)
3x13: The Zeppo
3x15: Consequences
3x16: Doppelgangland
3x17: Enemies
3x21: Graduation Day (Part 1)
3x22: Graduation Day (Part 2)

12 episodes

Season 4:

4x01: The Freshman
4x03: The Harsh Light of Day
4x09: Something Blue
4x10: Hush
4x15: This Year's Girl
4x16: Who Are You?
4x17: Superstar
4x22: Restless

lol not a single arc-related episode.

Season 5:

5x02: Real Me
5x05: No Place Like Home
5x07: Fool For Love
5x12: Checkpoint
5x13: Blood Ties
5x16: The Body
5x18: Intervention (BUFFYBOT IS ESSENTIAL)
5x19: Tough Love
5x20: Spiral
5x21: The Weight of the World
5x22: The Gift

11 episodes. Maybe too much?

Season 6:

6x01: Bargaining (Part 1)
6x02: Bargaining (Part 2)
6x07: Once More, With Feeling
6x08: Tabula Rasa
6x13: Dead Things
6x19: Seeing Red
6x20: Villains
6x21: Two to Go
6x22: Grave

9 great episodes and the rest was UNWATCHABLE. Entropy was good though, but I'm already adding too much.

Season 7:

6x02: Beneath You
6x05: Selfless
6x07: Conversations With Dead People
7x16: Storyteller
7x17: Lies My Parents Told Me
7x18: Dirty Girls
7x19: Empty Places
7x21: End of Days
7x22: Chosen

Does anyone care about this season? It's all a blur to me. Marvel was the only one who liked the "General Summers Turns the Family Into An Army" plot.

68 episodes total. Still cut off more than half of the episodes. Yay.

the way I see it, you only have three choices. Scary knife Anya (you know the shit I'm talking about), Bunny Anya or singing about bunnies Anya.

vitmain, we'll be mortal enemies with lots of homoerotic moments, it will be great.
